M4D Showcase: Driving digital inclusion – Watch demos of the latest tools from Connected Society
The mobile industry already connects over 3.5 billion people to the internet, but there is still a “coverage gap” of 750 million people who are without access to mobile internet services. There is also a “usage gap” with 3.3 billion people covered by mobile broadband networks but who are not using mobile internet services.
Visit the Connected Society team at the M4D Hub and talk to us about the work we’re doing to close the coverage and usage gaps, and find out how we’re addressing the major barriers to digital inclusion. We’ll give you a demonstration of our latest tool; the Coverage Maps Platform, which enables you to explore the availability of mobile network coverage for every population settlement in 8 African countries. We’ll also show you the newly updated Mobile Connectivity Index (MCI), which measures the key enablers of mobile internet connectivity across 165 countries.
Low levels of basic digital literacy are one of the main obstacles to mobile internet adoption. If you’re interested in tackling this particular barrier, talk to us about our Mobile Internet Skills Training Toolkit (MISTT), a set of resources for organisations to use to teach customers the fundamentals of mobile internet.
