Digital Identity and The Blockchain
The international community recognises identification as a fundamental enabler of socioeconomic and political development. Identification has even greater relevance in the increasingly digitised global economy. Robust digital identity systems can produce huge savings for citizens, government and businesses, increase transparency and accountability and drive innovation. Mobile represents one of the most exciting and flexible platforms for the transformation of digital identity. We are also now seeing powerful examples of how blockchain technology can complement efforts to deliver secure identity services, in particular by governments and financial institutions. For example, Smart Dubai has pledged to deploy blockchain to create a paperless city by 2020, while the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange has launched blockchain e-Voting. This session will explore the ways in which the region’s mobile operators can benefit from positioning themselves at the front line of digital identity as well as provide clarity on the role of blockchain in disrupting industries.
