Sebastian is a scientist and entrepreneur working the past 12 years at the intersection of IT and sustainable energy solutions for lean environments in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Sebastian is the current CEO of KopaGas, a technology startup developing the first Pay As You CookTM platform that addresses the affordability of clean cooking fuels in East Africa. KopaGas currently serves 16K people in Dar Es Salaam and is the third largest LPG network in Tanzania.
Before KopaGas, Sebastian led the innovation and field operations for the award winning SharedSolar project. This initiative funded by the Sustainable Engineering Lab at Columbia University and the Millennium Villages Project developed core software and hardware technology required in community size solar mini-grids and now is used by a handful of private players.
Sebastian main areas of expertise include technology development, infrastructure planning and monetization models for lean infrastructure. Sebastian has worked for a number of multilateral organizations including the World Bank and UNDP. Sebastian received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering Design from the University of Manchester in the UK.
