Katie currently works in UNHCR’s Innovation Service with a specific focus on communicating with communities and UNHCR’s Connectivity for Refugees initiative. Over the past 12 years, Katie has worked across a range of humanitarian responses to forced displacement in Africa and Asia. In her current role, Katie has worked to strengthen collaboration with mobile network operators and regulators to expand connectivity and digital services to refugees and hosting communities. She is also developing and testing guidance to better help UNHCR’s operations and partners better understand the communication preferences and barriers of affected communities. Her interest in communicating with communities and connectivity builds upon her background working with media outlets in West Africa and her academic background in Refugee Protection, critical media, film and photography.
