Policy Day: Transformational Regulatory Policies to support Industry 4.0 and 5G – Afternoon Session One

Workshops

Date & Time

Thursday, 26 Sep

14:00 - 15:00

Description

14:00- 14:15

·       Introductions

14:15- 15:00

·       Three speakers will make some remarks of 5 minutes each to set the scene for a wide-ranging discussion on what are the key policy and regulatory enablers that need to be in place to ensure the mobile industry can invest and deliver 5G and IoT for I4.0?

Policymakers, regulators and mobile industry executives from the Asia Pacific Region, will discuss how the mobile industry can further help governments achieve their I4.0 Digital Agendas and together shape regional policies now and for the future. Participants will be invited to exchange views and consider questions such as these

  1. Mobile ecosystems are vital to the successful implementation of I4.0. With 5G offering more capacity, speed, latency and new features such as ‘network slicing’ mission-critical and data intensive machines can be connected reliably and combined with data generation from  connected devices so that manufacturers can mine through more data than ever before. What are the key policy and regulatory enablers that need to be in place to ensure the mobile industry can invest and deliver these new technologies?
    • What is required to streamline the process and procedures to facilitate network deployment?
    • Is there scope for regulatory flexibility to enable industry to launch innovative 5G propositions?
    • What can policy makers do ensure there is a sound investment environment? What options are available to foster mobile operators to invest in 5G AI, Big Data and IoT for I4.0? What lessons can be learned from countries that have or are in the process of rolling out 5G?

  1. What is network slicing and how will this new feature play an important role in I4:0? Debating this topic, participants will take a deep dive into the principles of network slicing, the benefits for I4.0 use cases, new business models required for mobile operators to deliver this functionality. Are there any policy or regulatory barriers for the mobile industry to deliver network slicing in APAC?
