Internet of Things Keynote: Smart Cities and Connected Cars
The MENA region is one of the most highly urbanised in the world and as the population explosion continues apace, governments are making huge strides in addressing the issues of climate change, resource scarcity, energy diversification and infrastructure bottlenecks, as per Goal 11 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals to “make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”. Smart transportation systems are one of the highest priorities for many smart cities as transport systems become strained, thus limiting productivity. Despite numerous planning challenges, well-managed cities can be incubators for innovation and ingenuity. Fulfilling this mandate, Internet of Things (IoT) solutions are increasingly becoming a staple feature of modern cities as across the globe as city planners and service providers are realising that urban challenges can be overcome by using smart, connected services. Mobile network operators are a natural and crucial partner in the deployment of secure and reliable connected smart city solutions. Through the provision of these value added services, operators can move beyond connectivity and act as a trusted partner for their customers and business partners by offering high quality service management, responsive customer service, end to end security and big data solutions. In this transformational session, high profile speakers will share the fundamental building blocks for successful smart city development and connected transportation in the MENA region.
