Mobile For Humanitarian Innovation At Mobile 360 – Africa 2019
Mobile 360 – Africa gathers leaders across Africa’s tech and telecom landscape to share disruptive, provocative, and inspirational ideas contributing to Africa’s digital rise. GSMA Intelligence has shown the significant increase in mobile coverage and users in the region, and in Kigali next month we will be exploring how this increase has led to the rise of the digital citizen. While we explore this theme, we also need to remember the commitment of the Sustainable Development Goals to ‘leave no one behind’, including over 26 per cent of the world’s refugee population who are based in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The GSMA Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation programme (M4H) seeks to accelerate the delivery and impact of digital humanitarian assistance, and since its launch in February 2018 has focused on understanding the digital humanitarian ecosystem in the aim to improve access to and the use of life-enhancing mobile-enabled solutions during humanitarian and disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
At Mobile 360 – Africa, the M4H programme will be exploring the theme of the digital citizen by focusing a spotlight on how the humanitarian sector is leading the way on innovating through the adoption of digital technology and do no harm principles in partnership with mobile network operators.
The programme will showcase the work of grantees from the first and second cohorts of the M4H Innovation Fund, which invests in new technologies and ideas that will deliver dignified and impactful support for the growing number of people vulnerable to, or affected by natural disasters and complex emergencies. Don’t miss to the opportunity to meet these innovative game changers of digital humanitarian aid at the Mobile for Development Showcase Hub where a live demo will take place on Wednesday, 17 July between 15:15- 16:15.
On Tuesday, 16 July from 14:30 – 17:00, the programme will also host a side session: Improving humanitarian aid delivery through mobile: opportunities to innovate and do no harm. We’ll be hosting humanitarian leaders, mobile operators, donors, Blockchain developers, UN agencies and the wider ecosystem system to discuss the growing demand to leverage mobile technology for responsible and more efficient humanitarian aid delivery. Through this discussion, we will highlight examples of responsible innovation from the Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation programme and the role of mobile technology in accelerating the delivery and impact of digital humanitarian assistance.
We invite you to join M4H alongside the entire mobile industry in Sub-Saharan Africa. From start-ups to regulators, network operators to tech hardware manufacturers, NGOs to banks, Mobile 360 – Africa is set to bring together over 1000 stakeholders from across the continent and Africa’s Tech and Telecom landscape. We look forward to seeing you there!
