The Directorate Net Futures of the European Commission Directorate-General CONNECT recently published a call for proposals on Internet of Things – Focus Area (IoT-FA) Large Scale Pilots.  These pilots will have the specific challenge to foster the deployment of IoT solutions in Europe through integration of advanced IoT technologies across the value chain, demonstration of multiple IoT applications at scale and in a usage context, and as close as possible to operational conditions. The 5 Pilots will be targeted, goal driven initiatives that will propose IoT approaches to specific real-life industrial/societal challenges. Specifically they will concern: Smart living environments for ageing well, Smart Farming and Food Security, Wearables for smart ecosystems, Reference zones in EU cities and Autonomous vehicles in a connected environment.

Initiated in March 2015 by the same Directorate, the Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIoTI) aims at creating an IoT Ecosystem that would enable Europe to become a global lead in this field and foster a Digital Single Market (DSM) for IoT.  The overall goal of this Alliance is therefore to strengthen links and to build new relationships between different IoT players and sectors.  Their 12 recommendations for future collaborative work in the context of the IoT Focus Area will be made available at the booth.

Orange Healthcare: supporting people with diabetes

In 2015 Orange Healthcare was the main sponsor of the mHealth Grand Tour, a cycle ride from Brussels to Geneva furthering the research into diabetes care utilising mobile connected technology. At Mobile 360 Orange Healthcare will showcase the unprecedented connected technology, designed to help riders through a programme of personalised medical support assisting with the management of their diabetes. Following the Tour, the data collected from the medical monitoring of the riders is being analysed as part of a retrospective observational study.

About Orange Healthcare, the health division of Orange

For more than a decade, Orange has gained substantial experience through close collaboration with healthcare stakeholders, and this was reinforced at the end of 2007 by the creation of Orange Healthcare, its Health division.

Within Orange Business Services, Orange Healthcare has the technological know-how to be able to develop solutions which are not only simple, reliable and effective for medical and personal care services, but also contribute to bringing innovative solutions to the needs of patients and healthcare professionals.

These new technologies play a crucial role in modernising and improving healthcare solutions, by optimising medical practice whilst guaranteeing quality and equal access to care services. Facilitating the transmission of medical data, reducing administration costs, improving patient monitoring, developing systems for observation and risk management to increase prevention rates, optimising and customising disease management by the patient, helping dependent people stay in their own homes… these are all new services developed by Orange Healthcare.
